What we do

Water safety is a huge challenge in delta areas. Flood prevention and management require that water be seen as an important spatial and societal structuring element. Based on thorough analysis, we both provide and contribute to the design of future-proof and (data-) intelligent water infrastructure. Our Digital Twin approach is a useful tool (Digital Water) in this process. The approach links the infrastructure’s physical and digital identities in an inextricable manner. The objective is to have a traceable, future-proof and reliable water infrastructure. This approach leads to improved efficiency, cost reductions and a reduced failure probability in every phase of the infrastructure’s lifecycle. We have collected our instruments and competences in the SPiFRAME and REDO Toolboxes. We can work with these, together with the client, in making projections and supporting the adaptable design of future-proof water infrastructure.

A changing climate will lead to rising sea levels and rivers will have to accommodate peak discharges more frequently. The Netherlands has directed a great deal of attention to water safety in its history. Developments as consequences of extreme water conditions, have further convinced us that rivers must be given more room. The controlled provision of space for rivers and discharge has become the governing principle. The objective of FLOWDOT is to analyse and visualise regional water systems specifically from a water security perspective. Solutions must contribute to the combined function of the water system: Water Security and Water Safety.
