Besides our collaboration with governments, companies and renowned knowledge organisations at home and abroad, we also work closely with leading European scientists from the world of engineering. We are constantly on the lookout for new engineering solutions for the market, and we keep our finger on the pulse of the world of science. Consequently, a number of scientists have, in a personal capacity, become affiliated with Dareius as Innovation Associates. In this way we can also stimulate our team of young professionals to continually develop more and more innovative services and products.

Prof. Christian KAZNER PhD (1965, Germany)
“Water management calls for innovative solutions to address the rapidly growing and often very complex challenges in Europe and abroad. Coming from research and innovation, the mission of Dareius to develop and promote sustainable water management approaches is deeply embedded in their genes and fully in line with my idea of bringing research into application”

Christian Kazner earned his degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in Environmental Engineering from the Technische Universität Berlin, and holds a PhD (Dr.-Ing) in Chemical Engineering from the RWTH Aachen (Germany). He is an experienced engineer, manager, and former head of R&D in Wastewater Management at Dahlem Beratende Ingenieure GmbH & Co KG, in Germany. He was research fellow at the University of Technology Sydney, senior researcher at the FHNW University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern in Muttenz, Switzerland, and, since 2018, Professor of Urban Water Management and Head of the Environmental Engineering programme at Bochum University of Applied Sciences (Germany). He is the editor of the IWA’s Water Reclamation Technologies for Safe Managed Aquifer Recharge manual, and the author of more than 60 scientific publications.

Prof. Christos MAKROPOULOS PhD (1973, Greece)
“The construction industry is transforming itself by enhancing its digital services to improve its performance in building and maintaining water and other critical infrastructure and working with Dareius provides me with an opportunity to play an active role in catalyzing this transformation”

Prof. Christos MAKROPOULOS PhD (1973, Greece)

Hydroinformatics Innovation Associate
“The construction industry is transforming itself by enhancing its digital services to improve its performance in building and maintaining water and other critical infrastructure and working with Dareius provides me with an opportunity to play an active role in catalyzing this transformation”

Christos Makropoulos earned a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree from the National University of Athens, after which he was awarded a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering (MSc) at Imperial College London, where he subsequently received his PhD on ‘Spatial Decision Support for Urban Water Management’ in 2003. After working as a civil engineer and consultant, he pursued his career as a scientist at Imperial College London, the Centre for Water Systems at the University of Exeter’s School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, and then at the National University of Athens. After holding the position of Chief Information Officer at water research institute KWR in Nieuwegein in the Netherlands, he was appointed Professor in Hydroinformatics and Smart Water Systems at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim. He is the author of more than 100 scientific articles, and is the Co-Editor in Chief of Urban Water Journal and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Hydroinformatics.
